What a whirlwind the last couple of months has been!!

I have started working with the lovely women (yes, it’s all female) on the 30-day big leap programme – setting our 30-day goals and taking steps to get then created.

I have been doing networking, speaking, meeting people in person, talking on skype, planning a big launch of my new programme and so much more – phew!

One of the things that often stops people stepping out and doing new things is the fear of failing.

You know, of looking stupid or having to say ‘yes, I was wrong, it was not a great idea’, or of just feeling ‘lost’ and not really knowing what comes next.

This has indeed been my journey too.

I have tried lots of things that have not worked. I am reviewing a programme now as it’s not working for me or the clients. I am trying new things and really getting to grips with what works for me and my clients and what does not.

The problem is, we can only learn these things by actually having a go!

The real learning is in the DOING.

I did a presentation a couple of weeks ago and got told I was a ‘natural’ at speaking. I replied that it has taken me 5 years of performing training, live comedy and improv, some intensive presentation skills courses and 4 years speaking to get that ‘natural’!!

The only way I have learned to be a speaker is by speaking.

The only way I have learned to coach people is by coaching.

The way I have learned about doing ezines is by doing one each week for 4 years.

What do you want to be able to do?

Have a go!

Just do it!

You’ll find that having to apologise for mistakes does not kill you, and can make you stronger. Doing something scary can revolutionise your life.

If you need some help and support then get in touch and I’ll coach you through it…

Welcome to the new happynurses blog. As you can see there has been quite a gap, this is because of a major life and website overhaul!

I would encourage YOU to do the same. Look at your life and the areas in it, and have an overhaul this year. Get rid of some excess ‘stuff’ – whether that is stressful people, old clothes you no longer like or wear, old books or even old IDEAS.

As nurses and health-care professionals we can run the risk of putting everyone else first – it’s time to think about YOU first for a change!

Picture how you want your life to be and create a vision board or vision book of how you want life at the end of this year. You have almost 11 months to make the changes so there is no rush, but the vital thing is to get started.

One great way to make changes is to have a coach or mentor – someone to challenge you, support you, teach you and celebrate when you get your actions started. So often we try to do things on our own, but it is really challenging!

Asking for help is an important habit to get into – and from people who CAN actually help – not just the nearest or ‘easiest’ person!

Imagine what you want in 2012 and take the first step….TODAY!

Planning ahead and investing in the future are topics in the headlines at the moment. In nursing there were calls to reduce the number of nurses to save money, with little consideration that cutting nurses was one of the factors behind the infection at Staffs hospital.

Short-term gains can lead to long-term issues and problems, and this can be seen across all areas of life:

Choosing to sit in front of the TV instead of exercising leads to obesity and health problems

Choosing to drink more than the recommended amount can lead o to long-term health problems

Choosing not to discipline your children when they need it can lead to behavioural difficulties later on . . . and so on.

What do you need to do now, regularly and persistently, to get better results both at work and at home?

We can all make different choices – as I am half-way through my own ‘life makeover’ plan it has been useful to look at my own choices and habits and start to create new ones. For example, setting my alarm and going to circuit training instead of lying in bed, making time to ring organisations that have lots of nurses on their books instead of writing more articles or reading, and working some nursing shifts for extra income.

So ask yourself, what choices can you make that will give you better results now and in the future?

“The best time to plant a tree was 100 years ago. The second best time is today….”

Why?

Well, many of my clients say to me – “I wish I’d known this/done this ages ago….” as they consider all the time they have wasted in jobs and lives they disliked . . . Some of you may even be thinking ‘one day I’ll do something about my life….’

So ok, may be the best time to plant a tree was a 100 years ago but TODAY is the second best time to start making changes.

Make that day TODAY.

Book a ‘Find a Job You Love’ consultation call with me and make Autumn 2011 the time YOU planted your ‘tree’ – creating a happier future, moving into a job you love or a new career, complete with belief, confidence and the support of a group of peers and a fabulous coach – me!

Happiness is love and love is happiness.

So, in order to be happier we need to be more loving, to make love more important to us and to look for opportunities for more love to come into our lives, and have more time for those we love!

These are all quite easy and simple steps to take that will transform your life.

This week: look at who it is you love and just love them more, spread love to everyone you work with, live with and spend time with. The more you give of something, the more you will get back.

This will add more happiness into your life be simply being more loving.

Last week I went to Clevedon and walked on the pier. This is a pier full of love! The pier is funded by the sale of plaques which are all along the seats and planks. There are ‘in memory’ plaques, birthday and anniversary wishes, as well as proposals and birth announcements – it is gorgeous!

http://www.clevedonpier.com/index.htm

Go and see it and take a walk while reading how much love there is in the world . . . take some tissues with you!

The next tip for happiness is to know that you ARE happiness. Hmmm . . . how does this sound to you?

We may think that we are ‘happy’ (or not) but the fact that we are happiness is somewhat unusual. What if your primary purpose in this life is to be happy, to be happiness and to spread happiness to others?

How would you live your life differently?

Start to do this as some would say that this IS our life purpose – it’s not about money or working yourself into an early grave or putting

I have been spending time looking at various happiness theories and experts’ information recently. It is amazing that this is a topic that is so important in our lives and yet we sometimes don’t know what it means for us, or what would add more happiness into our lives.

How often do you think about your happiness or talk to your family or partner about happiness?

The one way to get more of anything in life is to make it important! I have said this many many times before but I still get lots of messages from nurses who are not happy, but are not taking any action to create happiness in their lives.

Make happiness the most important thing in your life every day and see what happens. Decide every day that today you will be happier than yesterday and do stuff that will add happiness into your life!

How can you make every day a really happy one? You know the answer to this in your deep unconscious so take some time out and focus on what answers come up for you.
